Deeside Night Race Series - Race #2 - Tarland Trails

Race #2 of the Deeside Night Race Series delivered everything you want from a winter night race. Three loops of Tarland Trails brought steep climbs, fast bermed descents and relentless turns, all raced under head torch alone. With just five seconds separating first and second, it was a flat-out, high-intensity battle that proved the series is very much heating up — even in the dark.

Aberdeen and surrounding areas had been hit with some decent snow which, paired with a cold snap, had lasted around a week, but with a big thaw looming the following week, we decided to head out west to Pitfichie (about 20 miles from Aberdeen) for a trail run.

On a very mild Monday in December, fearing that it may be one of the last big trail runs in not-quite-winter conditions, we headed South to the beautiful Glen Esk.
