In partnership with @explorr.festival which takes place in late August, join us on Sunday 9th August as we head out to Banchory to preview the course.

The route is a 10km loop starting from the Scolty Woodland Car Park and takes in some forest trails with views of Scolty Hill before turning back and tracing the River Dee back to the start. We’ll be going no faster than a pace of 6:00 mins / km with planned stops along the way and no-one left behind.

We’ll aim to meet at 9:00AM for a 9:30AM start at Scolty Woodland Car Park, AB31 6PT.

The Clachnaben Hill Race returned for 2026 and was held on Saturday 11th April.

Clachnaben, near Banchory, is a distinctive hill mainly due to the large granite tor at the summit and is visible from many points across Deeside.

The race itself features a total of approximately 690m of ascent and a total distance of 13.6km. It’s a challenging route and has everything you’d want from a classic hill race.

We are proud to be retail partners of the Glen Tanar Trail Running Festival as it enters it's second year!

The event takes place on 25th - 26th July and features four races set on the incredible Glen Tanar Estate in Scotland's spectacular Cairngorms National Park in Royal Deeside.

As part of the 4 races, you will run across tracks and trails next to rugged heather moorland through towering Caledonian pine forests and alongside the winding River Tanar.

Race Distances:

• 10km with 76m elevation gain
• 15km with 398m elevation gain
• 25km with 523m elevation gain
• 55km with 1789m elevation gain

Both the 25km and 55km races are UTMB Index Races.

OUT&BACK will be providing prizes for the winners as well as an exclusive discount for race entrants.

explorr is a new outdoor endurance festival created to celebrate Scotland’s landscapes, communities and spirit of adventure.

Launching in 2026, explorr brings together gravel cycling, off-road running and a weekend-long festival programme in Banchory, Royal Deeside, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. The ambition is simple: to build a flagship outdoor endurance festival for Scotland. A place where racing, culture and community come together over one unforgettable weekend.

The result is something new for Scotland. A three day gathering for runners, riders and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Big days on the trails and gravel roads. Good nights in the festival village. And a community at the heart of it all.

Ahead of the event, we'll be hosting a shake out run on the 10km route - stay tuned for more details!

The event takes place on 24th October and is a thrilling night-time trail race where participants run through forest trails and rugged terrain, guided by head torches and glow markers.

• 8km (walk + run)
• 15km (walk + run)
• 15miles (runners only)

The Deeside Runner notorious Night Race Series takes place from December to February and consists of bogs, ice, holes to fall down in the dark, very disappointing prizes, and cafes serving well-earned refreshments. What’s not to like?

For two years in a row, OUT&BACK have supported the series, providing race entrants the opportunity to try out head torches as well as providing a prize for the male and female outright winners of the series.
